Currently, Microsoft is blocking the update on systems running VirtualBox. If you have found an alternative to VirtualBox that suits you, it is safe to remove the application from your system and perform the update. If you do not use VirtualBox, you can uninstall the app and upgrade to Windows 11 without any problem. Oracle is working on the update but so far, there is no date for when the fix will be released.Īs soon as the update is available, only later versions will run on Windows 11 which means you may need to update your VM device settings so that they can run on the latest version.

This means that Oracle will have to release a new version of VirtualBox, and this new version will have to address the compatibility issue. The VirtualBox compatibility issue is on the end of Oracle. Note: if you do not see Hyper-V, look instead for Windows Hypervisor Platform or Windows Sandbox and disable it.

The only exception so far is VirtualBox Oracle. Similarly, with Windows 11, all apps that may run on Windows 10, 8 / 8.1, and 7 are compatible with the new OS. Microsoft did not force UWP developers to opt out of desktop apps. Apps like VLC player and Spotify have both desktop and UWP version. Microsoft has tried to push the UWP platform for Windows apps but desktop apps are the strongest app type of Windows 10.
